3 Questions To Ask at an Orthodontist Consultation

Do you have an upcoming orthodontist appointment and are wondering if there are any questions you should ask them?

You need to be prepared before going to your first consultation appointment with your orthodontist. It is best to know a few things about the various teeth straightening options available. You are going to have choices when it comes to choosing the type of braces you want to wear. Knowing a little bit about these choices is going to be very beneficial for you.

About orthodontist consultations

The first appointment with an orthodontic office is going to be a consultation appointment. For an orthodontist to understand which of the teeth straightening options will work ideally for each patient, they will perform an oral examination and take any necessary X-rays. This initial appointment is extremely informational. The orthodontist will provide you with all the information you need to know about getting their teeth straightened.

3 questions to ask at an orthodontist consultation

The following is a list of three questions that everyone should ask an orthodontist at their consultation appointment.

"Which teeth straightening option do you think will best fit within my lifestyle?"

Teenagers are typically involved in many sports and activities, so there may be limitations on what they can do. This will also answer the questions how easy it is to care for the braces and how long will the treatment plan take.

"Can I expect any discomfort or pain when wearing certain types of braces?"

This is extremely important if you do not handle pain well. If so, you can prepare by asking the orthodontist for pain management suggestions.

"Can I eat or drink whatever I want? What foods can damage my braces?"

For traditional braces, the orthodontist will tell you not to eat hard, sticky candies and to avoid things like chewing gum. Some foods, such as apples, are known to damage braces, so you should also avoid those.

Why are straight teeth important?

While having straight teeth does make for a beautiful smile, it is also important for overall oral health. When teeth are not in their correct position, it is going to be much more difficult to clean them. When you do not clean your teeth well, the chance that you will develop one or more cavities or even gum disease increases. According to the American Dental Association, researchers have found that periodontitis is linked with other health problems, like cardiovascular disease, stroke and bacterial ammonia.
